Mechanical performance of cement mortar with olive pomace aggregates and olive mill wastewater: an experimental investigation

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study investigates the potential use of olive aggregates (OA) in production cementitious materials as a substitute for natural sand to reduce excessive this resource. Two types OA were used: OPA (olive pomace aggregates) and OPMW (OPA mixed with mill wastewater). The aim was determine experimentally whether improvements mechanical properties produced lightened cement mortar could be obtained compared reference mortar. Laboratory tests conducted on two series samples made by replacing 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% both dry saturated OA. best results observed mixture containing 5% at state, which had marginal effect compressive strength mortar, reaching 33.50 MPa after 28 days curing. However, microstructural analysis revealed low adhesion between matrix interface transition zone (ITZ) days. Increasing content found decrease workability while also increasing porosity resulting Additionally, reduces ultrasonic pulse velocity dynamic modulus elasticity. Overall, meets standards general building materials.

Antimicrobial Activity of Olive Mill Waters (Alpechin) and Biotransformed Mill Wastewater Waste- Olive Oil

Olive oil extraction produces a great volume of residue. These olive mill wastes are known as alpechin. This wastewater is a powerful pollutant, resistant to degradation and presents a severe environmental problem related to its high organic content made up largely of simple phenolic compounds, that have been described as being both antimicrobial and phytotoxic. This paper reviews briefly the a...

Olive mill wastewater microconstituents composition according to olive variety and extraction process.

Olive oil production yields a considerable amount of wastewater, a powerful pollutant that is currently discarded but could be considered as a potential source of valuable natural products due to its content in phenolic compounds and other natural antioxidants. The aim of this work was to explore the variability in olive mill wastewater composition from Algerian olive oil mills considering extr...

Olive Mill Wastewater in Turkey and some Solution Alternatives

Olive, as a fruit, cannot be consumed directly due to the oleuropein substance it contains and needs to be processed into either table olives or olive oil through various production systems. Th e process of olive oil extraction results in olive oil as the main product, and two by-products, with olive pomace being one and brown-coloured Olive Mill Wastewater (OMWW) as the other. OMWW has no dire...

Photochemical UV/TiO2 treatment of olive mill wastewater (OMW).

Olive mill wastewater (OMW) was treated by photocatalysis using TiO2 under UV irradiation on the laboratory scale. The chemical oxygen demand, the coloration at 330nm, and the level of phenols all showed decreases which, after a 24-h treatment, reached 22%, 57% and 94%, respectively. The differences between these three values indicate the persistence of colourless, non-phenolic compounds. Appli...

Biological treatment of olive mill wastewater by non-conventional yeasts.

The ability of lipolytic yeasts to grow on olive mill wastewater (OMW)-based medium and to produce high-value compounds while degrading this waste, was tested. OMW collected from three-phase olive mills from the North region of Portugal were characterized and used. OMW with COD ranging from 100 g L(-1) to 200 g L(-1) were supplemented with yeast extract and ammonium chloride. Studies of OMW con...
